2024 World Teachers’ Day Awards
The Educators SA World Teachers’ Day Awards ceremony was held on the 25th of October at the Adelaide Oval, and SAGTA Committee Members won numerous awards.
Congratulations to SAGTA Treasurer Sarah Bragg (Westminster School) who won the Ministers Language Immersion Scholarship for Non-Government Early Career Educator.
Congratulations to SAGTA Co-Vice President Mitchell Neeb (Aldinga Payinthi College) Public School Educator) who won the Ministers Language Immersion Scholarship for Non-Government Early Career Educator as well as SAGTA’s Innovation and Leadership Award.
Congratulations to SAGTA President Kirsty Hickman and the SAGTA Commitee for winning the Innovative Association of the Year Award:
‘SAGTA has collaborated with other Associations to develop innovative professional learning opportunities for the languages community that are showing clear evidence of learner impact. They have also developed an excursion Guide for German teachers that links to First Nations Peoples and Cultures, and contributed to a broad range of SA community initiatives.’

2024 ConnectEd Conference for Early Career Teachers
This one-day event is on Friday 19 July at the Education Development Centre at Hindmarsh.
Starting at 9:00 and finishing at 3:00pm, it will include a keynote, workshops, a panel of early career educators, and lots of opportunities to network. The final program is nearing completion with sessions for early years, primary and secondary educators.
Any early career member of your association can attend for free; for those not yet a member the cost is $25 for an early career educator and $15 for a preservice teacher.

2024 Gianfranco Conti PD: Developing the EPI Curriculum
SAGTA is thrilled to host a one-day workshop featuring Dr. Gianfranco Conti for our SAGTA members, as well as our friends and colleagues from other language teacher associations.
Attendance in this workshop is advised for those proficient in the ‘Conti method,’ having prior professional development experience with Dr. Gianfranco Conti. Participants should grasp and actively utilise EPI.
Topics include:
Key components of EPI curriculum design
The principles underpinning effective short, medium and long-term planning
The procedures involved in design, implementation, and evaluation of a course
Acquisition-enhancing strategies, for example, recycling, interleaving, universals and fluency training
The role of assessment as a means to advance learning
Morning tea, a light lunch & refreshments will be provided. Please bring a mini-whiteboard and marker to the workshop

2023 World Teachers’ Day Award
Congratulations to Sarah Bragg who won the SAGTA Early Career Teacher award. The Educators SA World Teachers’ Day Awards ceremony was held on the 27th of October at the National Wine Centre. SAGTA Committee members Mitchell Neeb, Trish Prenzler and Michael Goh accompanied Sarah on the night.

2024 Goethe Scholarships for Language Courses and Seminars in Germany
Would you like to refresh your German skills or gain new ideas and impressions to make your lessons more colourful and diverse? The Goethe-Institut awards scholarships for language courses and professional development seminars (e.g. cultural studies, teaching methods) in Germany.
The scholarship includes:
– tuition for a Goethe-Institut Intensive German course (75 teaching units, 15 days of lessons)/ seminar fees plus a social and cultural program
– accommodation in single room including breakfast (in a Goethe-Institut guesthouse or with a private host, depending on course location)
– one main meal on course days
– a travel allowance of €1000
– basic health, accident and liability insurance

2024 Minister’s Language Immersion Scholarships
The Minister for Education, Skills and Training is also offering five scholarships to language teachers in South
Australia for language immersion experiences within Australia or overseas.
Scholarships are available in the following categories:
- One scholarship for a teacher in a Catholic Education School
- One scholarship for a teacher in a Department for Education School
- One scholarship for a teacher in an Independent School
- One to an early career educator from the Department for Education School who is in their first 5 years of teaching (including contract, TRT and ongoing appointments)
- One to an early career educator from a Non-Government School (Catholic or Independent) who is in their first 5 years of teaching (including contract, TRT and ongoing appointments).
Each scholarship is worth $8000!
The immersion scholarship program for language teachers aims to improve language skills, proficiency, and
intercultural understanding.
